Young Investigators Award (YIA)

What is the YIA?

One of the key objectives of the ECSS is the promotion of junior scientists and the fostering of state-of-the-art research. For this purpose, the ECSS established the Young Investigators Award (YIA). The YIA is sponsored by the European Journal of Sport Science and the winners are granted with generous cash prices. The YIA supports upcoming young scientists, who present outstanding scientific work at the ECSS annual congress in both oral and mini-oral categories.

Presentations

What are the presentation formats and is there a time limit for the presentations?

Oral presentation

Oral presentation format is PowerPoint (16:9). Oral presentation time is 10 minutes plus 5 minutes of discussion. Oral presentations must be pre-uploaded in the Speakers Ready Room one day in advance of your presentation (e.g., Wednesday morning for presentations on Wednesday afternoon). The use of your own laptop or USB is not permitted.

Conventional print poster (debated)

Size is A0 (height: 120cm, width 90cm). The poster format is portrait. Poster presentation time is three minutes plus two minutes of discussion. Poster presentations do not require a PowerPoint presentation. Posters can be displayed on the morning of the presentation on the designated poster boards, and removed in the evening. Pre-upload is NOT required.

E-poster (not debated)

E-poster requires a pre-upload in pdf format (one slide only) in landscape (horizontal) orientation (140cm (55in) width x 79cm (31in) height). The e-poster must be pre-uploaded in advance of the congress via your ECSS account (deadline 27 June 20223). Abstracts accepted in this format will be published in the eBook of Abstracts of the Annual Congress. In addition, the e-poster will be made available online and on-screen. The e-poster format can be accessed at any time during the congress, using widescreen TVs located in the general e-poster area. There is, therefore, no formal presentation time, and no formalised discussion time. If discussion is required, presenters will be contacted directly (by email) by interested parties.

Why am I not in my preferred presentation category?

The author may state their preference for the type of presentation (oral or poster). The final decision however lies with the Scientific Committee and is also due to the settings of the Scientific Programme.

Is it possible to present a colleague’s abstract on their behalf?

The submitted abstract must be presented at the congress by the first author only.

What is the COVID-19 protocol for the congress?

ECSS follows the local and national guidelines for COVID-19 during the congress.
