Swimming

Date: Thursday, 9 July
Time: 15:30 – 16:30 (during poster session)
Session room: 4A

Swimming research is growing fast, yet the field remains scattered across institutions, methodologies and practitioner communities. The ECSS Swimming SIG provides a central hub where researchers, coaches and applied scientists can connect, share evidence and coordinate efforts. The aim is to strengthen the scientific foundation of swimming performance and to support the broader ECSS mission of advancing sport science through collaboration and high-quality research.

The Swimming SIG already brings together a diverse and active network of students, early-career researchers, seasoned academics and practitioners who are committed to open exchange. The SIG meeting at the ECSS Congress aims to help concentrating expertise, encouraging joint projects and accelerating knowledge transfer to real-world practice. Given the increasing demand for robust, sport-specific insights in areas like biomechanics, physiology, training load and open-water performance, this SIG gives ECSS a timely and forward-looking platform to support growth in aquatic sport science.

This SIG is supported by members of EUSWIM. The EUSWIM network is a free, open research and academic platform for anyone interested in swimming science – from students and early-career researchers to seasoned coaches and scientific advisors. Its mission is to foster a peaceful, collaborative environment where people can discuss ideas, team up on projects and address challenges in swimming performance and allied fields.

The Swimming SIG and EUSWIM is aimed to build strong partnerships among researchers, facilitate shared research efforts and establish collaboration channels for swimming-performance projects.

The aim of the Swimming SIG is to foster collaboration among researchers, swimming coaches and scientific advisors by providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices with the overarching goal of advancing the scientific understanding and performance outcomes in swimming.

We look forward to your participation in the first meeting of the Swimming SIG to develop new ideas and projects for the future of swimming science.
