This Special Interest Group on “Running Sciences - Performance & Injury prevention” was initiated in 2023 by a multidisciplinary group of fifteen researchers from eight countries and various research fields and now includes more than 35 members. We mainly focus on distance running, which we have defined to start with distances above 800 meters, without any upper limit in ultra-endurance (e.g., ultra trails), although the group will welcome researchers focused on shorter distances. We will address all aspects of running performance and injury prevention, including physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology, sex, aging, fatigue, etc.

Our main objectives include 1) building a multidisciplinary network of researchers that are interested in Running Sciences among the ECSS community, 2) promote the topic at the ECSS Annual Congress, 3) initiate multilateral collaborations (e.g., industry-academia-practitioners) and 4) organise webinars in Running Sciences for the ECSS community.

In addition to sharing state of the art knowledge in Running Sciences, our mission is to identify the main knowledge gaps, challenge researchers and suggest future directions for research.
