Combat sports are gaining an increased interest globally, and this is also reflected by a rapid growth of scientific research in various aspects of combat sports. There is a large number of combat sports, with six of them being included in the modern Olympic Games (boxing, judo, karate, taekwondo, wrestling and boxing), while several others are practiced by a large number of people. From a sport science perspective, combat sports offer an exciting opportunity for research in the fields of Physiology and Metabolism, Biomechanics and Psychology, and Training/testing, all of which constitute core themes in the ECSS congress.

The aim of this group will be to establish a sustainable network fostering evidence-based research and practice of combat sports, in order to promote health and safety of combat sport participants, enhance their performance and improve training and competition practices.
