The British Empire Medal is awarded for ‘Achievement or contribution of a very hands-on service to the community in a local geographical area’ and our ECSS Executive Board Member and President Elect, Prof. Janice Thompson, has been honoured with this award for her services to the public health. With her 30 years of experience in examining factors that influence diet- and physical activity-related lifestyle choices, she has been able to use her expertise to work in partnership with communities to develop and evaluate culturally tailored lifestyle interventions to reduce risks for obesity and type 2 diabetes. Congratulations on this honourable award!
