What are the presentation formats and is there a time limit for the presentations?
An Oral Presentation (debated) includes a 10-minute PowerPoint (16:9) presentation followed by a 5-minute discussion. The presentation must be pre-uploaded in your ECSS Account or in the Speakers’ Ready Room one day in advance of your presentation at the latest. The use of your own laptop or USB stick is not permitted. Further information can be found here.
A Conventional Print Poster Presentation (debated) comprises a 3-minute presentation and 2 minutes of discussion. The format for the poster presentation for ECSS Lausanne will be shared in due time here.
An E-Poster (not debated) must be length 140cm (55in) and width 79cm (31in) in landscape (horizontal) format and maximum file size 2MB. The E-Poster must be pre-uploaded in PDF format (one slide only) between 26 May and 30 June 2026 via your ECSS Account. Abstracts accepted in this format will be published in the eBook of Abstracts of the Annual Congress. Further information can be found here.
In addition, the E-Poster will be made available online and on-screen. The E-Poster format can be accessed at any time during the Congress, using widescreen TVs located in the general E-poster area. There is, therefore, no formal presentation time and no formalised discussion time. Authors are encouraged to upload a video speaking about the E-Poster. If discussion is required, presenters will be contacted directly (eg, by email or ECSS Congress App) by interested parties.
Why am I not in my preferred presentation format?
Submitting authors may state their preferred presentation format (oral, print poster or E-poster). However, the final decision lies with the ECSS Scientific Board and in line with the settings of the Scientific Programme.
Is it possible to present a colleague’s abstract on their behalf?
The first author who submitted the abstract must pay the full Congress registration fee to confirm the abstract for the final Scientific Programme. In case the first author is unable to attend, a registered co-author is permitted to present the research on their behalf.
4. ECSS YOUNG INVESTIGATORS AWARD (YIA)
What is the ECSS YIA?
One of the key objectives of the ECSS is to promote young scientists and foster state-of-the-art research. For this purpose, ECSS established the ECSS Young Investigators Award (ECSS YIA).
The ECSS YIA is sponsored by the European Journal of Sport Science (EJSS) and the winners are granted generous cash prizes. The award supports upcoming young scientists who present outstanding scientific work at the ECSS Annual Congress in both Oral and Conventional Print Poster format.
Are there any requirements to participate in the ECSS YIA?
To successfully apply for the ECSS YIA, please see all the ECSS YIA requirements listed here.
How do I apply for the ECSS YIA?
Applications for the ECSS YIA must be uploaded during the abstract submission process.
Note: If rejected, the documents cannot be resubmitted and applications sent by email will not be accepted.
What are the ECSS YIA reviewing criteria?
Please find the ECSS YIA reviewing criteria here.
How do I know the outcome of my ECSS YIA application?
Check your application status in your ECSS account under 'myCongress' at any time.
Note: Application acceptance only confirms that the application requirements are formally met but does not confirm participation in the ECSS YIA competition during the Congress just yet. The ECSS Scientific Board selects the final competitors based on abstract quality. A successful application and therefore competition participation will be send within the notification of abstract on 1 April 2026.
Why have I been rejected as an ECSS YIA applicant?
The ECSS YIA application may have been rejected because it was incomplete or did not meet the eligibility requirements.
If all requirements were met, rejection may have been due to limited ECSS YIA presentation slots and other higher-ranked abstracts.
This does not undermine the quality of your research. Please note, the abstract undergoes the normal reviewing process for non-ECSS YIA abstracts and we look forward to welcoming you as a Congress participant.
