To present time, we didn’t have any information about symptoms of common mental disorders in professional rugby. Consequently, we conducted a study in order to explore the extent of symptoms of common mental disorders in a group of retired professional rugby players from France, South Africa, and Ireland.
We found that four weeks prevalence ranged between 25% and 30% for symptoms such as stress, anxiety depression and sleep disturbance. With regards to our findings, we definitely need to develop some interventions and some support measures for the group of retired professional footballers in order to increase and empower their quality of life in the future.
