On Wednesday 24th June 2015 a press conference was organized within the framework of 20th annual congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS). The press conference was well received and  the media got a better view on the congress and what was going to happen during the four days of the congress, 24th to 27th June 2015.

It was moderated by Gisela Sjøgard, executive board member of the ECSS and six speakers were invited to tell their views on the ECSS Malmö 2015 congress from their respective perspectives.


Prof. Marco Narici
, President of the ECSS, talked about the ECSS in general and how it has developed from its founding in 1995 to this day. He also was very happy to be in Malmö and come back to the roots of sport science. Prof. Narici also mentioned the passing of Prof. Bengt Saltin, ECSS founding member, who was remembered with a Tribute Symposium and the 1st ECSS Bengt Salting Run sponsored by Technogym.


The congress presidents Prof. Susanna Hedenborg and Dr. Aage Radmann, focused on the scientific quality and scientific programme of the ECSS Malmö 2015. Mentioning some key sessions to attend to and highlighting the thematic directions of the scientific programme, including for example, childrens right in sport, sustainable body and Bengt Saltin Tribute Symposium. In addition, they emphasized the social and physical programme organized during the congress.


The General Manager of the Malmö Live, Jens Lyckman, gave a perspective on such a congress from the congress venues point of view. The Clarion hotel and Congress Malmö Live being officially opened on 2nd of May 2015 it was a great pleasure for the venue to invite over 2,000 international participants to the venue and discover the state-of-art facilities including a highly functional gym and great surroundings for several sporting activities.


Johan Hermansson
, Tourism Director from the Malmö Convention Bureau, highlighted the importance of international events coming to the city of Malmö and promoting the city towards other international congress organizers and tourists. Malmö has lot to offer for its visitors and during such a congress it has a great opportunity to showcase its features in a very wide spectrum.


Finally, Prof. Per Nilsson, President of the Swedish Centre for Research in Sport and a chair of many sessions in the congress highlighted the scientific directions of the congress and the importance of sport in the society. He also talked about the invited session which he was chairing “Childrens Right in Sport” and emphasized the meaning of such a high quality science presented in Sweden.
