European Journal of Sport Science: Message from the Editor in Chief - MR 24.02.2015
Hello. I’m Andy Jones the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Sport Science. And this is my report on the progress and plans for the EJSS for 2015.
The journal has had another successful year. We had over 11,000 downloads and material published in the Journal in 2014 and we received over 650 manuscripts for review.
But in particular, the journal’s impact factor increased to 1.314, placing it 46th out of 81 in the Sport Sciences category. We published a 492 page supplementary issue in September 2014 in order to clear a substantial backlog of accepted manuscripts. This significantly reduced the lag time from acceptance and on-line publication to full-print-publication, with the latter presently being 5-6 months. This is very competitive in the field.
Our first issue of 2015 was a special issue entitled ‘Current Controversies in Sports Nutrition’, guest edited by Graeme Close and James Morton, with prominent authors including Ron Maughan, Louise Burke, Tim Noakes, Stuart Phillips, John Hawley, Keith Baar and Andy Philp, Luc van Loon and David Pyne. This issue is free to download and we are expecting it to be of significant interest to our readers.
Other special issues will also be published in 2015. These include ‘Science in Sailing’ with Gisela Sjogaard as the guest editor, ‘Quiet Eye’ with Sam Vine and Andrea Klostermann as guest editors, and ‘Science and Rugby’ with Christian Cook and Liam Kilduff as guest editors. This latter special issue should be published in time for the Rugby World Cup.
In summary, EJSS is now widely regarded as one of the leading journals in sport and exercise sciences, and we are looking forward to another successful year and to an exciting future.
